Carl Vorhalas was the son of Count Vorhalas and the brother of Evon Vorhalas.

During a party, shortly after Aral Vorkosigan became Regent, Carl became drunk and he and a friend had an arguement. During the arguement both managed to get hold of two blades.

In an accident Carl Vorhalas killed his friend with his sword.

Since this was technically a duel with two swords, which had been outlawed, Carl Vorhalas was executed.

The execution was badly carried out, the executioner hacking at Carl's neck three times before managing to sever the head.

A lot of bad feeling was generated as a result, as well as from the fact that the Regent would not reduce the sentence due to his feeling that this would be inappropriate for someone charged with upholding the laws.
