Nicol is a Quaddie and a brilliant musician.

She was hired with false promises, by Baron Fell of Jackson's Whole for her musical talent . She lived on Jackson's Whole for a number of years as a virtual slave.

Unable to leave, her contract was finally sold to Baron Ryoval, who wanted her as a sex slave, moments before she was rescued by the Dendarii Mercenaries, for the price of one Betan dollar, because of a romantic attachment she had formed with Bel Thorne.

She departed the Dendarii fleet a few days later at Escobar to return to her own people.
