ImpSec, primarily a military organisation, is the Barrayan intelligence service and is also charged with the protection of the Emperor. Its distinctive logo are the Silver Eyes. More information about the Silver Eye of Horus symbol is available.

Responsible for both internal and external security, ImpSec's mandate is very extensive.

Officers assigned to the protection of the Emperor must first compete the "Special Course" introduced by Simon Illyan, the former, long-time head of ImpSec.

ImpSec has agents on almost all settled planets, many under the cover of diplomatic duties.

The ImpSec headquarters is an impressive building, not in its looks, but in the technology and overly paranoid design implemented there. The building has its own independent ventilation system, cut-off from the outside, with extensive air filtering as well as a carefully checked water supply. Restricted areas are very difficult to reach, an example is the ImpSec chief's office which can only be reached by using at least two different lifts, at different locations in the building.
