A stunner is a small hand-held weapon that disables the target it is fired at.

Most places allow one to carry a stunner, although many also require a permit.

The obvious advantage of stunners is that you do not kill the target. This means there is no inhibition to fire one, and also no inhibition for some one to charge a stunner armed attacker.

The stunner has given rise to something known as "stunner reflexes". These cause the user of a stunner to fire the weapon without hesitation and it has been known that two people have stunned each other rendering both attacker and victim unconscious.

The stunner also reduces the chances of "friendly-fire". If a situation has gone out of hand then an outsider can just stun everyone and sort out the good-guys form the bad-guys afterwards.
