Details
Fast-Penta is a drug that allows quick and reliable questioning of a suspect.
It is always important to test a subject for fast-penta allergy, both natural or induced (see below), as the reaction will be fatal.
The suspect, once injected with fast-penta, becomes unable to lie and will answer all questions asked of him/her.
During questioning it is best if the interrogator is the only one speaking to the suspect to avoid confusion. It is also good if the interrogator can create a friendly atmosphere and can set up a question-answer rhythm. As a result cases of physical torture have decreased considerably.
The invention of fast-penta posed a very large problem for the various governments and organisations. Since it was not in their best interests to have all their important people just regurgitate all their knowledge, they create a fatal fast-penta allergy in these people.
Different people react differently to fast-penta. Some get deliriously happy, others solemn and others still burts into tears. A small minority are able to resist fast-penta through various means, notably Lord Miles Vorkosigan, who can evade answering by reciting poetry. His bother-son Lord Mark though has the fast-penta allergy.
